Attenuation woes

I have just recently helped my next door neighbour to install broadband and was a bit miffed when i saw what connection speed they are getting.

When checking their stats i see they are getting a download attenuation of 38db whilst i am only getting 43.5. The houses are litterally 3 meters apart but i am connected to a pole to the right and my neightbour is connected to a pole on the left. The actual line lenghts of the cables to the poles from our houses look to be identical.

Now my question is can i get BT to connect me up to the left hand pole as that one appears to be better or am i just stuck with the one im on?

My next door neighbour is syncing at 7000 whilst i am only syncing at 4000. Both routers are dg834's and both are plugged into the master sockets with faceplates removed.

Do you think BT will move me - even dont mind paying for it as long as it isnt over the top or is their a cheaper alternative?

Some advice, and some humour to be found in this thread.

It is unlikely that the difference in attenuation and line rate is due to the poles they are fed from, more likely there is a difference in the route , probably between the exchange and street cabinet.
Openreach will not alter the routing solely to improve your line rate, though if your connection was faulty they might as a fault resolution process

yea ive done everything i can think of and have read about.

My neighbours are on the same ISP as me and we are connected to the same pole, my router syncs at 5.1Mbit and theres connects at just under 1Mbit. There is a lot to be said for selecting good filters, double checking the quality of your internal lines and disconnecting the ring wire etc. Still he is a git so he can stay on his plop connection.

swapped routers and power supply with your neighbour?
