hi, i had this problem a few months ago and it just vansihed on its own. now its back.
i have a netgear 834GT, when everything is plugged in. phone, router filters etc i can hear the crackle on the phoneline. ive changed microfilters as well
when i just use the phone without internet equipment i cant hear the crackle.
when i have all the internet equipment plugged in i hear the crackle then when i turn off the router the crackle dissapears, when i turn the router back on as soon as the internet syncs the crackle returns.
could this be a fault on the router? would buying a new one remove the crackle? i still think the fault is outside my house otherwise why would it vanish for the last couple of months
any advice greatfully received becasue as you can imagine BT arent going to come out if the crackle is not present without all my internet equipment attached
thanks
mike

Maybe you shouldn't rule out an intermittent fault with the router before trying another.
Have you replicated the fault with the phone and router plugged into the NTE5 test socket only? Have you tried different filters? Have you tried a different phone?
You're best off ruling out the possibility of it being your equipment before escalating it to your ISP as a DSL fault.

yeah the fault is still there in test socket, tho last bt engineer that came out said i didnt need to take the faceplate off again to test as i didnt have an extension and that all using the test socket does is remove any extension (2nd phones) from the equation.
ive tried different filters still persists
ive tried different phones, i use cordless phones, have used 2 wired phones and tho fainter the crackle is still most definately there.
my internet still works, it is just telephone conversations that are affected by annoying background noise. surely it is a BT issure rather than an ISP issue?

Tricky one. Without the router connected, everything's tickety-boo. Which means that BT are meeting their obligation to provide you with a working line for voice calls.
Most likely, if you try and log a voice fault with BT, and mention the problem only occurs while your router's connected, they'll say it's a broadband issue, and either put you through to BT broadband (no good if they're not your ISP) or refer you to your own ISP.
I think you need to see if the problem persists with an alternative router to eliminate that before going any further.
You could try logging a fault with your ISP, but we all know that if the problem turns out to be the router, you could end up with a large bill from Openreach.

Call 150 immediately. Get a free OR engineer to fix it.

If you are using the router wirelessly try it wired to the PC with an ethernet cable and see if the noise persists.

i actually use homeplugs in conjuction with the router, but the problem was there before i bought the homeplugs and its still there using them, i have also tried it at the end of a long ethernet cable and its still there. ive even turned the "wireless broadcast" off on the router and its till there

this is my issue in a nutshall, I dont think BT will be interested as they are meeting their obligation of a working voiceline, personally i think that the noise is there all the time but my broadband equipment amplified it.
i shall have to see if i can borrow a router from somewhere just to rule it out.
If it turns out not to be the router at the end of the day then im still stuffed as the problem only exists with broadband equipment attached and therefore it will be of no interest to BT

Have you tried the "quiet line test", dial 17070 press option 2 and listen .............................

I can totally understand the situation.
See if you can borrow another router off someone. If the crackling persists, call your ISP and see what they suggest.
