Hi all,
Of the four houses built in this development we were first to move in and get connected, utilising an existing cable which runs up to the farmhouse up the track. A month after we moved in a new BT cable was laid, and the remaining three properties are connected to that cable (50-pair, judging by the thickness).
Both myself (old cable) and the house next door (new cable) get a solid 8128/832 connection, and we both have 13 attenuation. However we have SNR hovering around 10 or 11, and the property next door gets 17.
At the moment it's a moot point since our exchange does not yet have ADSL2+. But when ADSL2+ does come then we'd have a much lower speed than the neighbours. Also, an SNR of 10 for us doesn't give us that much leeway above the target of 6.
Is there any mechanism to get moved onto the new cable? Would BT do this for free or for a fee? Or should I just be pleased that I get 8128 anyway?
Many thanks,
Jim (approx 800 metres from exchange via cable run, and 400 as crow flies)
