Help me understand my router stats

Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post. I started a new thread as the old one was going off topic at a considerable speed.

I've spent this morning tinkering with various elements of the wiring around the house and have managed to get an additional 448kbps just by removing the ring wire in the extension to the router.

My problem is however, I'm monitoring the stats on my router without fully understanding what all the numbers mean.

Here's my log of this mornings tinkerings the first stats are the ones prior to anything being done.

I then took ten readings prior to disconnecting the orange ring wire in the NTE5 master socket.

After the orange wire was disconnected the sync went up by 448kbps. So I thought I'd remove the very tatty looking extension that goes from the master socket off to the kitchen phone.

Now the first figure has gone up, the second remained the same and the final ones have all dropped to around a half of what they were before.

So what does it all mean?

In your other thread I suggested (a couple of times ) using the 'test' socket revealed by removing the lower part of the master socket faceplate.

The reason for using the 'test' socket is that ALL your internal extensions are disconnected and the connection you get will be the best you can achieve on your line. As you are finding, by changing your wiring results are changing - by using the test socket you will be able to see the very best you can get...

NB. If after removing the Master Socket faceplate you find that phones on extensions are still working then that shows your wiring isn't as it should be and someone's interfered with the rear of the socket.

I'll do that this evening as there will be less chance of me getting my head bitten off by an angry wife demanding to know why the internet connection has gone down and the phones have stopped working

FYI - You will always sync higher during daylight hours when interference is at it's lowest and your SNRM is at it's highest - so careful you don't go messing up your IP Profile!

Without trying to hijack too much please b4dger.

My own master socket has no wires connected to the back of the removable faceplate, but there are loose wires inside the socket. Does this mean that the extensions I have around the house are likely to be disconnected?

Does this also mean that I am effectively only connecting through the test socket (via the faceplate) anyway?

I only have a 3 DECT phones with the base station plugged into a splitter at the master socket along with the only connection to my router. I haven't ever moved the phone to the other extensions to see if they work? Suppose I should test this?

The only thing I have ever done was to remove the ring wire from an extension before finding nothing connected in the master.

It doesn't sound as if you have any extensions connected - so yes it sounds like the 'loose wires' are disconnected wires from your old extensions.

And yes again - unless your faceplate is damaged then you won't gain any improvement by using the 'test' socket.

Always worth checking the old extensions have been correctly disconnected and not wired up behind the master...
