Re: Training Status: Showtime What does it mean ?

I assume that max achieveable speed is based on line stats (when I feed line stats data through the speed estimators I get 8-9Mbps range of max speeds so the max achieveable speed of 7150kbps as returned by BT's test is not very far from the estimates).

I think BT have worded that in a very bad way. What they are basically saying is that you are on an ADSL connection (as opposed to ADSL2+), so your maximum speed will be 7150 and the minimum will be 600kbps.

Looking at the stats of your connection, I don't think you are going to do much better.

That might be the key question.
Am I still on ADSL or am I on ADSL2+ ?
I set my modem to ADSL2+ modulation and it works which suggests I am on ADSL2+, I guess.
You are suggesting that the BT's test finds my service to be still ADSL.
Do I understand you correctly ?
How can I pass this question to my ISP so that I am understood clearly ?

You are on ADSL2+.

Rate (Kbps): 4655 888 is not possible on standard ADSL (two reasons, firstly 4655 and 888 should both be multiples of 32 on standard ADSL, and secondly the maximum upstream on standard ADSL is 832).

Well, if he's on ADSL2+ then it might be worth forcing the router to use g.dmt as a test, because many mid-range lines don't do well on ADSL2+

When Sky switched my home broadband to ADSL2+ my line sync went from 5000kbps+ down to less than 3500kbps.

It wouldn't do any harm to try. Not much else the OP can do if issues like the bell wire being attached have been looked into.
