Connection dropping when phone in use?

[link to this post]

I've recently moved over to C&W LLU & since then I've been getting issues with my connection either slowing to a crawl, fluctuating in speed or disconnecting me totally from the DSLAM at the exchange. This all only happens when someone is on the phone.

I've changed filters, tried new phones, moved the router (Netgear DG834GT) to the master socket (old style - no test socket) & checked all internal socket wiring & still having the issue.

Any other ideas as to the cause?

Got a support ticket into my ISP but wondered if there was anything else glaringly obvious that I've missed??

Too much kit connected to the phone line so drawing the extra current is the last straw? I've no idea if that is feasible or not.

I've taken my connections down to a bare minimum in the house.

Main phone is connected to the master socket along with the Netgear router via the filter (new one) & nothing else is connected to the socket.

I've just bought a new set of cordless phones (Panasonic triple set) to replace my old BT (quad set) but I have the same issue with either set of phones so not entirely sure what else it can be.

Try doubling up the filters on the phone.

Thanks, I'll give that a whirl & see if it stops the disconnects.

Tried the double filter method & still got a connection drop. [censored]! smile

If as you say you have tried everything your end (apart from trying another modem/router?) and it has been happening since the change over they may have done a bad job of the change over. If you haven't but can try another router and prove your Netgear good then at least that more likely puts the fault their end.

Sorry to say buying Panasonic phones was a bad move, there are some Panasonic DECT phones that cause havoc with ADSL.

I would agree with you as that's what I've read elsewhere, but I experienced the same issue with the BT cordless set that I've had for the last 6-7 years (only since moving to LLU I must add) & just out of curiosity I disconnected the Panasonic set, hooked up the old BT set & I still see it knock out my internet.

Admittedly it doesn't affect them as badly, it takes about 7 rings before the connection drops & it didn't seem to disconnect totally, just got no throughput.

Lastly, I managed to get another router (Netgear DG834) and tried that. It was worse.
My SNR maxed out at 6 or 7 & the connection again dropped everytime the phone rang.

Not sure what else I can try now as something on the phone side is interfering with the ADSL LLU side when the phone rings.

I'm baffled.

SMall update:

ISP is going to escalate this to C&W as they suspect a dodgy or loose line card in the exchange.

Fingers crossed.

Any particular Panasonic models? I've just bought a set of Quad Dect's (KX-TG1314E) and plugged them into an XTE2005. No problems so far and they work down the road lol. If anything my SNR has improved by 1db from my previous cordless SouthWesternBell models, although this could be a blip in the graph, it happens sometimes. Note: Still on ADSL(1).
