Phone causing modem dropout?

[link to this post]

I'm back again with less hair than before after scratching my head for a solution to a mystifying problem. I have tried Belkin, Netgear and D-Link modems in an attempt resolve a dropout problem and finally discovered that for some reason, my phone which was sharing the microfilter seems to be the culprit. My router is connected to an extension from the ground floor to the upper floor as I have no other choice. It is only since I disconnected the phone that I no longer get the dropouts. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did they overcome it and enable the phone to remain in use?

I'd guess at a faulty filter or a faulty phone or both. Swap components to identify which.

You mean you have tried different filters and different phones and you still get the drop-outs?

Do the drop-outs only happen when the phone rings or whenever you are using the phone?

Have you got the shared wiring correct?

Every phone should be connected to a filter.

The router does not need a filter - but if connected to one, it must only be to the adsl output of the filer?

from how you describe your setup, i am presuming that you have no telephone dowstairs, and you have plugged an extention cable direct into the incoming master socket which is running upstairs, where you have a filter plugged in, to which you are plugging in a telephone and your router is that correct?

If you have a telephone downstairs, you will need a telephone "doubler" plugged into the telephone socket first, a filter with telephone in socket1, and your extention lead into socket2.

unless, your telephone extention cable is hardwired into the back of the telephone socket downstairs, then you will need a filter both upstairs and down.

hope that helps..
