Faster Sync with test socket

[link to this post]

I have a somewhat odd problem and am looking for some advice.

I am in the process of migrating from Nildram (now OPAL/Tiscali) to SKY LLU Unlimited. I do not migrate until October 18th, and so am still on the G992 1 service with OPAL. The SKY service will be ADSL2+ I believe.

I have been paying closer attention to my Sync speeds in anticipation of my migration and have noted that when I plug my router directly into my NTE5 test socket I sync at around 2000 kbps more than when I plug the router into the faceplate itself (with splitter).

I am confused because the key line stats do not seem to change much when I plug into the test socket, yet the sync speed differs dramatically.

Can anyone suggest why this may be so? Typical results of switching between the test socket and front plate are as below:

Using Test Socket in NTE5

.........................DOWN....UP
Data Rate(Kbps)...5600......896
Noise Margin........6.0........10.0
Output power......19.9.......12.5
Attenuation.........44.1.......24.5

Plugging Directly into front socket on NTE5

.........................DOWN....UP
Data Rate(Kbps)...3328......896
Noise Margin........6.0.........9.0
Output power......18.3.......12.4
Attenuation.........43.4.......24.5

Thank you for any advice!

A mixture of poor wiring and an increase in noise is causing this. Have you removed the ringwire?

Your upstream looks very much like an ADSL2+ service.

That's because the system is designed to try and get an SNR of 6.0

Normally as your synch speed goes up your SNR would drop, you are getting a faster synch speed with the same SNR therefore your stats are changing you are just looking at the wrong one.

There is a problem with your internal wiring. Do you have a filter on everything (Sky boxes are a favourite and may need double filtering), removing the ring wire might also help.

5.6Mbps is good for a line with 44.1db loop loss if without errors
