Speed Test

[link to this post]

I am with TalkTalk and have been getting approx 6 meg speeds. I read in a computer mag to register with OpenDNS as this server is quicker, which I did. I am now getting 3 to 4 Meg speeds. Could anyone tell me why it has dropped.
Thanks.

Open DNS is just a name server, ie it converts the numbers (ip addresses) used by websites into names.
It should have no bearing on your connection or throughput speeds.

To be able to look further into the problem ideally you need to post your connection stats which can usually be found in the routers web pages.

And what happens if you put the settings back to what they were originally?

You don't need to register with OpenDNS; just to use their DNS IPs in your router.

Maybe registering OpenDNS Basic is slowing you down by downloading add-ons into your browser. Did you notice it downloading anything?

So suggests the talktalk performance has changed. Rather than being anything to do with OpenDNS

Have you looked to see what speeds the ADSL modem is connecting at? There may have been a noise spike, and it is connecting at a lower than normal speed, and just needs you to power off and on the router

It looks like my TalkTalk speed has dropped. It shows the connection speed high at 8.3 Megs every time I connect.
