ADSL slow

Hi All, hoping someone can help. I have been getting a sync speed in the region of 1.25mb recently and thought for laughs I would just hook my HH3 up to the test socket and to my surprise it synced up at 3mb. Looking at the faceplate it seems like the orange bell wire is already disconnected from it, would it also need to be disconnected from all extension sockets to make a difference to sync speed? Does anyone have any ideas what else it could be? I disconnected a phone from one of the extensions but haven't seen any difference in sync speed.

A lot will depend no the state of the extension wiring, if the extensions must remain in place than a faceplate like One of these on Amazon
