Accessing Bridged modem config web page

[link to this post]

So I have an EchoLife hg612Rev3 modem in bridged mode. This is connected via Cat5e to the WAN port of the WRT3200ACM router.

The modem WAN IP is dynamic and changes at random by the ISP. Inwardly, the modem is 192.168.1.1 and is providing DHCP server and providing LAN addresses from pool 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.150. But when I put the modem into bridged mode, most if not all of the web gui was lost so i think the router is providing the DHCP server??

The router LAN IP is static at 192.168.2.1. The WAN port is connected via cat5e to port 1 on the modem.

All works fine, but i cannot access the modem config web page (i.e. http://192.168.1.1) UNLESS I disconnect the router and connect my laptop to port 2 of the modem with my ethernet cable.

Can somone please explain what's going on here, and if can be resolved such that LAN clients can access the modem config page "normally"

You need a second Ethernet cable going between the LAN2 Port on your modem and one of the normal LAN ports on your router.

I'd also ensure your router is configured with a static IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.254.

I'm out of ports on the router (which does have a static IP address on the LAN)

I read, somewhere but [censored] cant remember the site/post, that if the modem and router are on different subnets then the router can be configured to route traffic to the modem and thus the modem web page can be accessed. I cant remember how to do this but it involved SSH into the router. I'm running DD-WRT and can run scripts/commands (linux) on the router if neeeded?

Ian, that's great, but I'd that guide for static WAN IPs? Which i don't get with my isp.
