Re: SKY Ultimate Broadband

As it is LLU if the sync speed is good then no profiling to slow throughput down, so congestion still looks the most likely.

Has latency risen also? If yes then that pretty much confirms congestion.

Sky has gone through a period of being VERY popular due to its cheap unlimited products, so it may need to go through a network expansion phase.

What would be good to see is 8 to 10 tests spread over a 24 hour period, i.e. 8am to 12am, 12pm to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm 8pm to midnight

Thank you for everyones input I will do as advised (24hour test over a period)
When I get up in the morning to take daughter to school I will start 8am.
Although I still think network traffic as very little to do with the biggest loss I am seeing.
I know it plays a part but I just think there is more to it then this?I guess we (I) will find out in the next 48 hours.

If the Connection Speed 9172 kbps / 798 kbps speeds are the same throughput the period and the noise margin is not excessively low i.e. under about 4dB, then it is unlikely to be an issue with the ADSL component of your connection

@ MrSaffron
IIf you do not believe it to be with the ADSL ??have you any ideas on what it may be?.

Have you specifically talked to others using Sky on your exchange, to see if others have the same issue? If yes then the Sky link is congested 24/7.

In reply to a post by bioraptor:
I will start by saying I am a enthusiastic gamer,so the faster my up load speed the better my mood will be.
I was wanting to go with Fibre optic although as this is not yet possible in my location I made do with SKY Ultimate Broadband.
I am paying for 20MG although I was told I would only get 10MG with a 1MG up load.

My stats : ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9172 kbps / 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db / 24.3 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db / 16.3 db
Things were fine at the start, although I always wanted more up load speed. smile
My speed results showed they were consistent until last week their as been a drop of 4-6 MG and I can not understand why?.
Here are two ex-samples of how much the drop is.....

Speed Results 1
Latest Speed Result

As you can see there is a big drop.
I have phoned my ISP provider up (SKY) they have tested my line and say I am getting Connection Speed 9172 kbps / 798 kbps .
If this is the case why am I seeing such a drop in my connection?
All I have hooked up to my PC is my Xbox360 and this unit is not switch on when I ran the test.
As far as SKY are concerned it is not a problem for them,so I am left with paying for a speed I am no where getting.
I would love to hear of others opinions on this topic or any solution?
Thank you for taking the time to read and have a good day.
John.....
Although it won't play a part in the congestion (both slow down/upload) but the upstream snr of 16.3 db
maybe an indication of it being capped for some reason, you should get the full 1300kbps upload sync speed, and would most probably if they reduced this to a more normal level say 9 or 6db out of interest what speeds do you see if you download test files ect, such as tbb test files or from here bbned or here leaseweb.com speedtest try all and compare speeds that you get,

I'm shocked that nobody has asked this (Could be wrong - had a quick read)...

Are you using WIFI or ethernet?

This can make a MASSIVE difference.

@ukhardy07

Sorry I should have told this information on my first page.
I am using Ethernet,no extensions.I have the factory cable that came with the router coming from my main source with one splitter (Telephone/Ethernet)
This goes directly to my router.(From router)I have Ethernet from router to PC.Ethernet from router to Xbox360 (test were taken while Xbox was not connected)

I have re booted router set all default settings.

I just do not understand my router says my line is giving me 9meg DL and 1meg UL
and for a time I could see this using the speed test, although in a space of 3-4 weeks I have had a drop of 4-5meg (router states it still is giving me the 9meg down load & 1meg up load)
Although as I have shown this is not the speed I am getting.
Can a ISP cap your speed without informing you although you are paying for a unlimited usage of that line & speed?
If this is so I think this stinks.

Sky makes big noises about having no FUP, but that does not stop experimenting and perhaps limiting the exceptional 1% of users.

It is possible you've used say over 300GB in the last month?

I very rarely down load anything from the PC,I down load from Xbox such things as DLC content for games but the most they are is 1 to 2 GB.

I think I need to phone back up and speak a little more demanding to them.
Although I end up shooting the message and it`s not his/her fault they are just following protocol when you talk to them about a problem.
But I always come off the phone feeling I have been fob-ed off or none the wiser.
I really can not wait till my contract is up as I will be moving ISP.
The exchange is only a few Mile down the road as-well so I should have a strong signal.
I do not want to sound pompous (if that is the right word to use)as I know their is people who are a lot worse off then what I am getting although when you pay for something you want to get what you pay for.
I will try down loading some packaged from the Broadband site see what that say`s.
Thank`s to everyone who as given me good advise and support.
Great friendly forum thumbs up from me....
