Just tried my phone number in there... it's still a touch conservative, but it's spot on in comparison with where it used to be shocked

That's because it often updates over time to nearer the actual on the line. We don't know the history of the OP's line, and I was also assuming he didn't have one yet.

I doubt if your line update has affected the nearby lines. That would be asking a lot of a BT-"designed" IT system.

In reply to a post by RobertoS:
Note what john says! ADSLx isn't like cable, distance from the exchange is very important.

What does this checker say about your address? Paste it here, as it can need interpreting until you are used to it. Specially the first bit is very scary and is rot!

Thanks RobertoS for your input. All this is very much appreciated

Here is the info I got after inputting my postcode. I still dont have a BT line(Tel number) even though its installed already prior to the switch to Virgin.

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your postcode indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 7.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 6.5Mbps and 8Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 11.5 to 37.7 Mbps and upstream line speed between 4.6 to 8.6 Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

Thank you for your interest.

Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.

That looks reasonable, except the wording of the FTTC bit isn't tremendously helpful because it gives a range. The address checker gives the same sort of info as a number checker, mine for both is
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 28.9Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.4Mbps
but the Postcode checker gives a range like yours.

My connection is 40000/10000 and I get over 35000/8000 real speeds.

Update guys smile

Spoke to Virgin, total time of conversation took 51 mins.

This Monday an engineer from Virgin will visit to hopefully fix the problem. I managed to get someone to understand the situation. Seems mentioning the speed of the broadband is all that it takes. Was always informed that I get 10Mb speed etc etc. I kept reminding him that problem has nothing to do with the speed but quality of line(connection).

I remember when I was with Zen 3Mb connection a few years ago and it was excellent due to the quality of the connection.

Will update the thread again on Monday. I hope it gets fixed.
