More likely that no one had a clue, myself included, why BT did not supply a correct or amended install date. ADSL or infinity makes no difference IMO.

You may not remember the original
Subject was "BT Infinity", but in the OP we only had ADSL mentioned, apart from getting nowhere with BT Help about the cabinet.
My first reply, admittedly somewhat terse, picks up on these discrepancies, whereupon the poster got shirty.
Given that the amended
Subject and posts make it clear that at the time the poster hadn't a clue what had been ordered, and that the poster now refers to his friend's organisational difficulties, we cannot know that any delay had not been notified to the customer. It could have been in an email, either to the old address or to the new one.
Furthermore, if the BT ordering system allows a selection of installation dates in the order process, most of us know that is highly unlikely to be adhered to. If that was what was being relied upon then it is most unfortunate.
