Just checking I've got this right.

You're saying that your ideal setup would be to have a single internal extension run, with all three bits of kit at the extension location?

Whilst it works just fine for most, a few experience major issues putting a PDQ on an xDSL enabled line.
Have you ever looked to see if your router loses sync when the PDQ dials out?
Does your PDQ have an Ethernet port?

To clarify the PDQ is connected via the xDSL line for dial out. I have not been around long enough to know the history of the connection issues.

We can connect the PDQ via Ethernet however with the line issues we have not done this as yet.

The router location is better as the Master Socket is in an area with not a lot of space and the nearest power outlet is opposite the route so the cable would go across the floor.

You need to check the stats, not speed test, because Plusnet always has problems with their own speed profile not tracking sync changes.

If no sign of a reset, chase it up.

The customer service does sound dire indeed.

If your current filter is duff, that would explain everything - apart from the cr*p customer service from your Bozo Business ISP.

Admittedly it's a personal preference, but I'm a fan of the BT interstitial VDSL faceplate filter (VDSL SSFP), as it prevents folk from accidentally plugging in unfiltered CPE at the NTE.
The Mk1 version isn't suitable for your preferred situation though.
The Mk2 would be ok, but I only use the newest Mk3 now.

It it were my job, I would fit a faceplate filter at the NTE (master socket) and then run a single cable (minimum of 2 pairs, one filtered, the other unfiltered) to the extension socket.
I would then re-filter the already filtered pair at the outlet for the PDQ and the phone, leaving the unfiltered pair for the router.
You would need some kind of double/twin socket arrangement at the extension, there are several possibilities from which to choose.
Happy to expand on that point if you want me to.

Having said that, you could probably get the same result with your existing DIY extension kit and a couple of dangly filters doubled up.
So long as the cable isn't that nasty flat cross-section CW1311, CW1316 etc.

I would be tempted to rush out and get at least one new dangly filter and switch to using the PDQ's Ethernet port. Just in case it's the PDQ that screwing the ADSL.
So long as you haven't got packet loss, it should still work, even with your ultra-slow sync.

If your "business grade" service comes with a static IP address, I would sign up to this site's Broadband Quality Monitor straight away.

Quick update,

Apologies for my absence. We have completely lost the internet provided by 3D and are struggling to get them to resolve it. However to make matters even worse we have now lost internet at our other location. This is NOT with 3D but with Orange. So the fight to get that sorted is in progress.

What a mess this all is.

Here is a picture of the junction box at the location served by 3D Telecom. I am wondering if this old wiring could have an effect on the ADSL service?

Thanks in advance.

Old does not always mean bad, but without seeing the actual wiring in close or in person hard to tell if there is star wiring that may be causing an issue.

In theory when a connection stops working rather than being slow it should be easier to get providers to start the fault rectification process.

Thanks MrS,

I will try and take another picture and post it.

We have finally got internet back at the site, and no at the main office.

The speed with 3D continues to be slow.

Mr S,

I have taken the following pics of the "junction box" at our base that is having the slow speeds.

I apologise for the quality of some of them, it is quite high up.

Is the box to do with the telephone line and if so is it something Openreach can replace? Would there be a cost to ourselves or would it be done FOC?

I look forward to your input and anyone else.

It is certainly an old telephone junction box, do the cables trace back to the NTE where the broadband connects ?

It doesn't look too bad TBF, but difficult to see the what and the why from those pictures. Looks like *maybe* two lines coming in, both incoming pairs are fed by very old non-twisted pair cable .....

Openreach will not come and replace/repair this just on your say-so. What you need is for your BB ISP to raise an SFI task.

Thank you Zarjaz,

I have not yet been able to confirm if the cable/s do go back to the NTE or not. This is due to how the cable from the NTE is routed.

Based on the "support" I have had from the ISP I am not confident they will be prepared to raise an SFI task or indeed will know what one is.

I am in the process of finding out from the ISP what they intend to do to resolve our lack of confidence in their company. I have suggested they release us from contract without penalty and am awaiting a response.

Is there a Business ISP who would be best to go to (should we be free to move) who does provide confident support?? I was considering A&A.

Kind Regards,

CJT.
