Last week I stepped up from VirginNet and dialup to VirginMedia on cable. On advice I waited three hours before attempting to install software from the CDROM. Having supplied all the necessary input data and attached the Ethernet modem as prompted, I received an on-screen error message 206. No assistance as to what error code 206 meant.
Dialling the number 0845 454 1111 as quoted in the supplied leaflet and waiting for many, many minutes, I explained my problem and asked for the meaning of error code 206. I was advised to ring 0906 301 2222.
Again a wait of several minutes and again I was given another number to telephone 0871 225 111. Remember this is not an existing customer with a technical problem, it is a new customer attempting to install a paid-for package.
I was never told what error code 206 actually meant, but was talked through another installation method which involved opening my browser and inputting a series of codes in the URL box. After several stages of procedure my account had successfully installed.
My concern is what will happen when and if, I do a reformat and clean installation on the same computer. Can someone please give me the stepped procedure for installation using a browser? In my loss of composure I omitted to copy down the various steps.
I have written to Virgin Sales Support in Nottingham but there is a deafening silence ....
