Had enough

[link to this post]

I cant be bothered spending money and time on tech support concerning my poor results in terms of bandwidth

woke up this morning before going to work and it was being capped at 5mb - on my speedtest i could see gauge bouncing on the 5mb mark trying to furiously go past - this was 7am this morning

I have now asked BT to transfer my ptsn line over and will give my 1 months notice with immediate effect

I am going down the adsl2 route now

i am currently got the unlimited calls option with VM but i am being still charged 8 quid a month in phone charges yet i dont use it and the itemised bill shows no calls made, supposed 20mb service that struggles to get past 10 mb during offpeak hours just proves i am getting a very poor service for money - telewest looked after me as a customer and now VM have lost me

just done another speedtest and it is struggling to get past 3mb - when i first got the 20 mb upgrade it was worse than the 10mb i had before

for most of the weekend the upstream was struggling to get past 50KB/s

completly congested network that is struggling to handle to 20 mb connections

yeh not bad for a 2003 adsl connection supplied by bulldog

adsl in this country has been going strong for 8 years and somehow I feel as if virgin media are going backwards

to think cable is supplied over superior topology yet it struggles to compete with 30 year old twisted copper pairs is farcical

Michael

May God go with you. My sympathies certainly will.

I could on occasions get 19,648 kbs at 07:00 but like you, I have seen the cap at a maximum of 5 mbs and have not abused bandwidth use.

A terrible service by all accounts today with the need (again) to keep restarting the modem. Even my four year old wonder boy has learned the restart routine now for when he is allowed to use the CBeebies website. Perhaps he uses up all the bandwidth between his 16:00 and 17:00 slot?

The reported vandalized street properties (green cabinets) are still open to the elements with "innards" spewing all over the place. The dogs have been joined by foxes for regular pee and spark parties at the cabinet locations.

I saw a VM van today a first for a fortnight. One guy only in the Van and he sat there phoning for around two hours (15:00 - 17:00). I am pretty sure that VM is headed down the tubes. The consolation will be to see Branson lose money big time which he well deserves for allowing a good company (Telewest) go to waste and some fine Telewest people thrown to the wolves.

On another note. BT Open Reach van crews are digging large holes in this neighborhood and appear to be doing some serious infrastructure work. Locals are leaving VM entirely.

Edit - added below.

The only way if improving service i can see is reselling bits of the company off and run the companies seperately as they were such as NTL, Telewest, etc..

Problem is that in some areas the service is terrible, yet in others it's fine.

The result below is fairly typical of my connection

Download Speed: 20002 kbps (2500.3 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 704 kbps (88 KB/sec )

However, back in June/July I'd get maybe 1000 - 5000 kbps at all times, then it recovered, so, they can get it right in some places at some times. Seems they need to do whatever they did here to the areas in which you are having problems.

Part of the problem is that companies know they can give poor service in some areas with little comeback, yet in others, such as here, they know if they give poor service it'll be brought up as a parlimentary question and legislated against.

May I suggest you contact you MPs and the local papers?

rang up a few days ago to cancel and the bloke there who also use to work for telewest fully agreed with my comments and said he could understand why i was leaving and didnt even once try and blag me out of it

he also advised me to cancel my direct debit asap as it would be a lot harder to get money back off VM rather than VM debit my account any amount they wanted

All that has changed is the company name - Branson hasn't ripped up cables from streets nationwide and replaced them with crappier ones with "Virgin" written on them.
