put it this way for some unknown reason my speeds are back to something terrible, im getting a connection speed of almost 8.4mb for a 20mb connection

Is the one that Virgin supplies any good? Can you log into it as admin and configure port-forwarding and stuff?

Does the router do DHCP? How many network ports does it have?

Do you mean cable router or cable modem? They supply a cable modem which you can't do anything to legally, all you can do is view your stats and connection.

Ah right, thanks. I need the ability to alter port-forwarding and stuff. Should I buy a cable router in order to do that?
