How long does an upgrade take when I request one?

Yesterday morning I called up Virgin to get an upgrade from 2mb to 4mb. The woman said it would be active within a few hours.

When I got home, I rebooted the router & did a speedtest but it was still 2mb.

This morning before I left for work, I rebooted the router & did a speedtest but it was 1mb this time.

How long should it take? Is it normal for the speed to be erratic after an upgrade?

Mmm. Well I called & the guy said it can take 24 hours. When I get home I will reboot & retest then call back if it's not working again.
