Virgin or BT

Hi,

I'm moving in January and have the choice of Virgin or BT for phone.

If I go down the Virgin route, would you recommend their broadband services?

We download some songs, quite a bit of straming i.e. iPlayer, and I download quite a few Linux ISOs etc.

Is the wireless router they provide any good (do they use a standard one)?

I've taken the plunge and gone for Virgin.

Installation is in mid-January. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll second that. I moved as the BT was getting worse and worse.
I've had no problems with Virgin yet, either with the service or the customer service.

Virgin: If you are lucky and never need to contact "customer care" then you will be pleased as the actual service is great. Billing and aforementioned customer care: well .......

Did end up ringing them when they doubled the direct debit without contacting me and was pleasantly surprised.They gave me a further 12 months at my current BB rate.

BT: well I'm still waiting to be contacted 3 days after reporting a fault!

SKY LLU better than both of them , �5 for 8 meg and over 7 meg download speeds when the kids are off school 3pm onwards no hassle over the 40gig so called limit either ...

That's quite impressive considering that the broadband service hasn't been available for 10 years, it was launched in 2000. If you've had it for over 10 years I'm pretty jealous.

From my point of view it's a case of where you live and what you can get.

Check www.samknows.com - if you can get an LLU service and are close to the exchange it may potentially be better. If you cannot get an LLU service Virgin are probably your best bet.

When it works it's usually pretty good. I've had some issues with slow speeds at peak times but nothing too major.

If it breaks, God help you, because it'll take a while for Virgin to do so

good choice I do my downloading out of stm hours and i've never hit stm.. i often download 200gb pm with no problems
