Getting throttled without using connection

[link to this post]

Hello, I complaned a while ago about poor speeds but this was only the download speed, upload speed was always fine around 720kbps, I am on the 20Meg package...

Now it seems i'm being throttled, when I have only been on computer for about 1 hour just simply browsing the web, not even watching any videos, i know that i have been throttled because the upload limit has gone down too...

This isn't the first time this has happend, its been happening several times lately, do u guys have any suggestions?

I dont do much downloading at all, however I use my connection for watching online videos, recently I have been watching Wimbledon in high quality on bbc website. however now, with my speeds throttled, the stream is really choppy and breaks up, and I have to resort to low quality still with some picture break up...

This is my connection stats, other websites have showed the same thing several times

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/1...

Hopefully u experts can come up with a suggestion or 2 to what is happening,

Thanks,

Sounds like someone on your box in the street is abusing their connection and its having a knock on effect on your connection. Or the IP range or local server is overloaded with high bandwidth users.

The high def stream could be pushing you close to the STM.......

Speak to Virgin - there are issues with STM on some Motorola equipment at VM's side which they are trying to resolve with Motorola.

Sadly they refuse to switch it off altogether until they have fixed the issue but they can remove you from the STM.

not using connection, but at the same time watching streaming HD ?

OP should realise by now that streaming films, means the content is being downloaded to temp and then trashed

try downloading the hd film to the hard drive and then watch it later, you will get an idea to it's large size as well smile

You must be going over the upload or download limit to be throttled. Virgins system identifies you as a high end user. 4meg is still pretty decent and you should be able to watch even BBC iPlayer HD perfectly fine. Streaming counts as downloading! Watch wimbledon on the telly box!
