Thinkbroadband speedtest

I don't know what other folk get with this site's broadband speed test. I very rarely get over 20Mb here, whereas I always get close to 50Mb with speedtest.net. If TB are using their results to judge ISP quality then they really need to invest in a decent test server.

Just got 9.1 Meg on TBB and 9.78 on Speedtest [ using London ]

I'm connected wirelessly - so reasonably happy that they are near enough to compare

Perhaps the issue is to do with TB's server ability to measure speeds up to 50Mb. With 100Mb rolling out at the end of the year and 200Mb being trialled in Coventry and Ashford now, TB needs to be ready for those speeds too.

TBB speedtest is ready for the speeds:

However there is something not quite right about the way the tester works with 50Mb as many people report the same thing. Seb has popped in here and asked for access to Linux boxes of people with 50Mb to troubleshoot it I assume.

Very interesting. It appears TBB have done their prep!! I am sure, as you say, they will identify if there are some issues with VM 50Mb speed measurements. After all they do seem to take pride in their reputation.

Seb is aware of an issue but i dont know if its been fixed as of yet.

I made this vid to show that the TBB speedtester is not working right for a 50mb connection

Being one of the users Seb was testing with, it would appear to be an issue on the routing to TBB in the Virgin Network, he tried a few tweaks but results were inconsistent to say the least. All he could really do was pass the information back to VM Networks and hope for the best.

OK. Thanks. It is in VM's interest to help solve the problem. I wonder if BT will have the same issues as they roll out FTTC.
