Slow Usenet

Anyone else having really slow speeds downloading from usenet? Virgin must certainly be throttling people now. I'm on 50mb and it wasn't like this a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed, very obvious, and only recent as you say. On Giganews using the stock 119 port it runs at about 8Mb/s for me. Switch to SSL, pt 563 and it gives a solid 50Mb download. Wonder how long that'll last...

need to find me a decent client then as using grabbit mine crashes. out of interest what do you use? not paying for a service that you can't fully use

Alt.Binz with Giganews. Worked ok for me for years now although Alt.Binz is a bit long in the tooth.

got newsleecher which seems to be working well with SSL. cheers for suggestions, though would be better if Virgin didn't slow down usenet

Yep, and one of many reasons I'll won't be interested in their 100mb service when it launches next month here. I'll stick with my 16mb BE.
