I checked my IP and for 100% certainty it is (and this is made up one) 82.166.100.26 say. Now I visit a website that records IP of visitors in the logs (I own that website so can access logs) and the IP recorded is NOT the one I mention afore, but instead is (and this again is made up) 82.34.30.87 . So does this mean that VirginMedia is running all http requests through a proxy ???
Thanks

It certainly sounds like it.
Try this site: http://www.ericgiguere.com/tools/http-header-viewer.... and see if the x-forwarded-for or client-ip headers reveal anything interesting (i.e. your real ip address). Not all proxies will set these however.

Yes tried that site thanks and it reports;
x-forwarded-for 82.34.30.87 (i.e. the proxy or whatever it is)
This is strange because it has only started doing this in past few days because
normally the logs show my true IP address in the logs.
Why would VirginMedia be doing this ?.

VM use a proxy as part of their IWF child porn filtering. If a site on your server has been identified as having child porn the site will be proxied through their filtering box.

Sorry but I do not understand what exactly you are saying ,because my question related to my visiting by browser of a website that I own that has NOTHING at all do do with "child porn" and is a simple 1 page website. The proxy is showing when I visit my own simple webpage and that webpage is NOT hosted on VM.

Well dont know what happened there but now it is showing my correct IP address. Maybe it has something to do with my forcing IP changes by changing the MAC address on my router and thus getting new IP from Virgin ??.

I said that if the dubious content has been found on a site on your server - you aren't the only person on that server you'll be sharing it with many other sites, one of which may be unsavoury.
What was the proxy IP?
The IWF filters are:
Name: webcache1-know.server.virginmedia.net
Address: 62.30.249.129
Name: webcache2-know.server.virginmedia.net
Address: 62.30.249.130
Name: webcache3-know.server.virginmedia.net
Address: 62.30.249.131

In fact as per earlier post everything seems back to normal now and shows my own IP so maybe caused by delayed IP change as I change my Router's MAC address quite often to
force IP change.
thanks

I obviously have no idea what you are up to but I'd speculate that changing your MAC address and IP address all the time will most likely make VM (or some other body) think you are up to something and hence investigate. This might be why there was a proxy put in place, so they could capture the traffic and see what you are doing. Also, if you have been interfering with other peoples connections by accidentally using their MAC address this also might flag your connection up for further investigation.

Changing my IP address is done occassionally because I get blocked by various whois services. I do not take anyone else's at all. Anyway end of this conversation as matter is sorted.
