My read was that he said so long as you DONT saturate upload

Alternatively you can run QoS which will do something approaching this then all will be fine

That.

So overall your comments are positive. In my case I cannot select anything else other than Virgin (home or business). I also cannot go to DIA service due to cost implications at this stage.

Can you please elaborate on the router setup? I definitely want to "bridge" IP straight to router of my own and configure everything after that hop.
What is the access to the Hitron Router? Do you need to be calling them for important changes? Personally I don't want to use that at all.
Your time to reply to me is much appreciated smile
Tks

Hi,

I currently run VMB VOOM + with 13 static ip addresses since the middle of last 2018, main reason I took up the VMB service is because BT completely messed up, however I have to say, the service has been a million times better, always getting full download and upload anytime of the day, for me I've had zero downtime, it's cheaper than what I was paying BT Business broadband, I'm also using the draytek 3900, it took me a little work to pass through the static Ip's from the hitron modem but once it was setup I was good to go, one thing to note is the hitron firewall is still active even in modem mode so I did at the start have some issues having vpn connections coming in to the network, I think mainly because I use GRE but again a few tweaks and that was fixed, these days I have my BT Business VDSL2 connection as a backup, speeds I get from that are 50/13.

hope this gives you some idea on the service I get, I'm looking forward to 500/35 from VMB, I would like more upload speed but hey as Openreach are currently rolling out FTTP in Wallasey Wirral and BT offer 315/48 I might upgrade and anything bandwith hungry on the uploads I might swap them on to the BT line

Sorry I'm late to this thread, hadn't seen it last week.
I had been trying since the start of January to use a similar setup - Virgin 350MB service with block of 8 static IPs.
My intention was to use a second router inside their Hitron modem/router for proper control.
A-very-long-story cut short : it was taken out of my hands two weeks ago, and the connection reverted to a dynamic IP basis. Which worked right away as soon as it was plugged in.
This is NOT to say that you would experience the same problems. I don't know. Personally I think there could be differences within Virgin's network that mean this will work for some people, but not for others.
I would recommend you to another forum as well (hope this is good with the Mods) : cableforum.uk . Some very knowledgeable people there for cable.
The problem for me was that no matter what I did, we could never get broadband flowing through to the second router.

Thank you very much for the reply albeit late.

From they configuration you're showing it is clear to me that you're NOT using the Hitron device in MODEM mode. If you were, the modem would get an IP outside your subnet and then you would have to create the GRE tunnel in your router. That would have the benefit on one extra IP (as it is NOT assigned on the Hitron but on YOUR device).

The problem that I have (and I have another post as I got the line now) is that I don't know how to do the GRE in my own device (PfSense) because I don't have the GRE endpoints info.

From my understanding when having static ip subnets you have to use GRE tunnels otherwise it's back to a dynamic IP, this is based on other research I've done.
