Tesco voip adpator

[link to this post]

I use a Tesco usb phone, which works ok, but I have to keep the computer on to use it, I seen tesco now have a phone adapter and it is cheap at the moment, 20. Have any one used it and what is the quality like?

I know I will also have to get another phone but you can pick up a Dect phone cheap these days.

Tesco also have a Siemens DECT/VoIP integrated unit which is a better idea.

I have no idea what it is like, but the budget clothing and homewares outfit Tk Maxx had "Trust" branded analogue to VOIP adapters in a clearance basket yesterday at 7.99.

While Trust seems to be quite budget stuff (judging by their mice and such) for that price it might be worth a bash.

I just seen that, thanks 50 they are selling it for and it can be used as a normal and Voip phone, I wonder if I could use my old handsets with it.
I will have to email them

No, it is for a bog standard analogue phone and xxx voip provider so you can just stick your normal household DECT cordless or whatever in it. Sorry if I missed the point somewhat

Did you mean "will it work with the Tesco internet phone?" (as in the USB phone you already have), or "will it work with the Tesco internet phone service?" (as in the x.xx a month product you pay to get free calls, etc.)?

In any case, don't Sainsburys do one (you wouldn't want to give too many details to Tesco )?

I don't know which phone you mean?

I have a Usb pjhone at the moment and I was going to get the strange blue shape thing or is it purple? to allow me to plug a normal phone in.

You said something about some Siemens phone, but the only one I can see on the Tesco website is the Dect phone that can be plugged into the ethernet port on the router and also to a normal phone line.

I just had another look and noticed that it is a seimens, is that the one you saw?

I already got a Tesco internet phone account, I have had it for a while, but it is a pain to use because the computer needs to be on all the time

I gave false info, well most of it anyway.

Sainsburys don't do a internet phone service and if they did it would be in partnership with Carphone Warehouse, as they sell their mobiles, homephone and broadband service and I would not touch Car phone ware house with a barge pole.

I see where you're coming from now....

Yes, the purple blob (probably the best way to descibe it ), is a VTA (or IPA to some people), and will allow you to plug a normal landline phone, into the VTA, and make calls using the Tesco internet phone service.

The Siemens one is a really good price (currently 50) and is an internet phone, but one that plugs into your router, instead of the USB port on your PC (like the other "Dualphones").

Both of the above, as they connect to your router (rather than a USB port), will work independently of your PC (so the PC can be switched off, whilst leaving the phone working).

The only problem I'd have with either device (but my gut feeling would be to go for the Siemens one), is whether they are locked to the Tesco Internet phone system (i.e. not able to be used with other VOIP / SIP providers).

From what I can find (on the Siemens DP450), it appears to be a Tesco special, but works in two modes - DECT and VOIP.
This could (but information is sparse) mean the Siemens phone can connect to the Tesco Internet phone service (the VOIP bit) - appears to come with a black box (presumably the link between the phone and the router) - and to a regular DECT system (if you have one connected to your landline).
The other way of reading this, is it uses DECT to communicate with the black box (and thus, to the internet).

All of the other Tesco "Dualphones" are USB only.

There is, of course, no reason to stick with Tesco phones, unless you wanted to stick with their internet phone account.
There are plenty of other choices of VOIP provider, although I'd not recommend Vonage, because of the high price of changing products, numbers, additional services, and the charge you around 20 to leave!

The advantage of the Tesco stuff, is you do get 59 clubcard points
