VoIP down

[link to this post]

Voipfone are defending an extortion-based DDoS attack from overseas criminals that has brought their system down for a couple of hours now.. Has the issue spread to other hosted VoIP providers?

According to my system's logs neither Sipgate or A&A have disconnected and their status pages don't show issues

However voip-unlimited.net appears offline which was one of the other VoIP services hit - previously

VoIP Unlimited were targeted again just over 2 weeks ago. At the time Voipfone were unaffected.

Touch wood no issues with Sipgate.

How is the system today? I had a quick look at their status page and it appears it’s coming back

Sipgate did have issues over the weekend, doesn't help that most of the information they release is in German only so it was easy to miss. Its odd Voipfone haven't moved to Cloudflare at least temporarily as they have shown they are able to weather these attacks, and this has been going on for almost a month now.

What sort of issues? I wasn’t aware of any service disruptions - DDoS related?

Hmm can't find it at all now, read was only partial disruption on the 24th and 25th. I might have got them mixed up with someone else.

The sincerity of your postings is not in question. My view of this state funded hacking of telecommunication services are not always in step with yours.

As an end user of Voipfone, the recent level of service has been hardly different from a normal service following the day long outage, incoming and outgoing calls have been possible but at times with a slight downgrading of voice quality. Bits of the service that have not been working, like push notifications, have been recently restored with others like the missed call counter not quite right yet.

The impression I get is that Voipfone remain under attack but that they are doing everything possible to maintain a working survice.

Sipgate's German portal reports a 10 minutes unplanned partial outage on the 25th mid afternoon. Some other planned maintenance affecting user portal access for 20 minutes on 25th and 28th. Nothing else reported.

Sipgate UK status via twitter:

Some intermittent audio issues last week, now solved apparently.

I don't believe I ever expressed any view on "state funded hacking of telecommunications services"?

All I ever said was "Let’s hope the Russians leave them be at some point"

Have you possibly got me confused with someone else?
