Firstly the KIT website is a bit hard to fathom, but I think I have it.

You have gone with Virtual which is £4.80 per month, and gives you free diverts to a UK Mobile, according to this. You could purchase an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor) but as far as I can tell you don't have any calling plan with that option. KIT offer a plan at £11 per month including "renting" an ATA, but I am not sure it's worth it.

Did KIT charge you to migrate the landline number?

Thanks for all the feedback and advice from you all. And I'm not offended by some of the messages (I'm use to a lot more in my job).

Yes I went for the £4.80 KIT port. It was all a bit rushed as my old Sky broadband was ending and Zzoomm had just been installed full fibre the previous month in our town, so I rushed into it as cheaper and a lot faster.

I wasn't planning on keeping my home number but my wife still wanted it and Zzoomm have a partnership with KIT so I committed to this but not really understanding what I was getting - so unlike me as I usually research everything.

So I do receive calls to my landline number to my mobile but my wife is old school and still likes to use a land line phone (I know!). So I was wondering if I could connect the home phone to the router but it appears not.

KIT have a solution but it's another £11 per month and I don't want to pay that so I will probably just stick with what I have.

So when the whole of the UK goes digital in a few years time will everyone have this same dilemma/problem?

Not really, people who are with most of the mass ISPs on the Openreach network and plan on staying with them will be migrated to their digital voice offering and the end user will simply plug a handset into the back of the ISP router.

There are also lots of really good VOIP providers (with different pricing structures) if people are able to separate out their broadband and voice service, most of these VOIP providers allow the end user to provide their own ATA kit which is not that expensive to buy where the end user plugs a phone in.

Get a VoIP service from A&A and buy a preconfigured ATA or DECT base from them, and point your KIT number at the number A&A give you. Once you're happy it's all working (and once you're out of any minimum term with KIT) then port your number from them to A&A.

Many of my friends will be quite happy to say "goodbye" to the old landline phone. There will be two types of internet provider, those whom also sell voice services, and those whom do not.

BT Group's Plusnet brand has decided to stop selling voice services. BT Group's EE and BT brands will provide voice services, but you will be required to use the ISP provided router. Virgin Media has been selling voice services using the router since before 2019.

Alternate network providers (e.g. CityFibre, Zzooom, Toob, etc) whom use a non-Openreach network to get to your home, may not provide any phone service. Except to refer you to internet voip providers such as A&A, or the competition.

As Ofcom reported telephone calls (from fixed line phones and mobiles) are decreasing every year. Many people will no longer need a "fixed line" phone.

I relaise this is a bit late, but just to say that Zzooms own router don't have a VoIP connection on it, but their ONT does, so I presume any VoIP will be connected to that if using KIT.

But it looks like you are sorted anyway.
