Your thoughts and recommendations pls.
Am looking for a new ISP after good service from F2s - now the dire Tiscali! I am a light user and am looking at either IDNet, Newnet or ADSL24 as they seem to be the pick of the bunch for service, reliability and price. Suggestions and thoughts pls.
Thanks

Light use go for Newnet; a little cheaper than IDNet and more consistent speeds than Entanet.

As sjr says NewNet for 3GB or under.
Anything else, Be, if available ( https://www.bethere.co.uk/ )

It would be wise to actually check what ADSL services you can get first before parting with any cash.
LLU providers such as Sky and Be will give you the best speeds, biggest caps or no caps at all - no throttling - and at the lowest cost.
Use the link I have put below and it will tell you exactly what ADSL services you can get by just putting in your post code or phone number (i.e. it may say "Sky LLU" or "Be LLU" - that means you can use Sky or Be and they are an LLU service).
Link to ADSL services checker. .

As another ex-f2s member I can recommend IDNet. Although slightly more expensive, they are worth it, very reliable with superb in-house free 0800 support should you need it. Most of us don't, though. Great forum too.

Sort of summing up the posters to date, in my opinion Newnet is the one to go for under 20GB per month. IDNet is possibly better but more expensive.
Unless you are a really light user then ADSL24 is 19.99pm which gives huge allowances but can suffer speed restrictions in the evenings and at weekends, which the other two do not. As you are migrating at least partly because of speed problems....
In fact I find Newnet is faster in the evenings than during the day. Presumably because it is primarily a business ISP and they all pack in by then. But the day is fine as well - over 70% of profile.
However, all three are good ISPs. You will not regret it whichever you go for.
Test during typing this:-
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7008 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5048 kbps.
(My normal profile is 6000 but had a low sync a couple of days ago in a storm so it went down to 5500).

Don't forget that Newnet charge for Bandwidth (= up & down) rather than simply downloads.

No, been in hospital for a short time but well enough now.
Try IDNET, excellent isp and highly regarded amongst those "who know".

I don't know how light a light user you are but have a look at this ISP,
there is a 90 day guarantee ( terms apply) if you are unhappy with their service
which has improved from that of a few years ago.

as Alistair from maaf (AKA Plusnet) pointed out, plusnet do have some packages for light users, be aware that they also throttle the connection. not a problem for many, but you should be aware,

Isn't this normal or do other providers only charge for downloaded data?

There have been long arguments about that in the past. I don't think any real conclusion was reached.
