Non-LLU ISP

[link to this post]

Currently with an Entanet reseller and would like to move to another supplier.

Market 1 exchange so no LLU

Heavy user, 100GB plus in off peak periods. 10 - 15GB peak usage on average.

I know it's a bit of a tall order with no LLU smile

Took a look at plusnet unlimited and it looks like a reasonable deal for a heavy user, any other members on here to confirm that?

See Plusnet's traffic management tables.

If you could reduce your peak usage then AAISP Pro is good. There is also a short over-night unmetered period.

Have a look at Xilonet, possibly ring and discuss your needs with them. They seem to be flexible.

And of course O2 Access gives you exactly what you want. The question is what the performance would be like frown. They have a history on Access of heavy congestion for 10 weeks, additional kit so fine for 3 weeks, then downhill for 10, then ....

However may be worth a try for a month. They have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Except there wouldn't be any money to get back as they currently offer the first 3 months free. Combine that with £50/45 cashback from Quidco and you may wish to consider it. If you do then you need to have a look in their in-house forum to see how things are these days.

Looks like I'm staying with Entanet until I move then...their new ALT is killing me even though I am well within my monthly usage.

Xilonet non-LLU packages are awful, AAISP peak usage is a joke and 02 Access looks like a circus.

Guess I already knew I was [censored] by living in the middle of nowhere.

Not really, if you work during the day which I do. I'd rather have these limitations than be with a crappy ISP.

People have to realise that the days of massive peak/off-peak allowances and/or unlimited are over and this is one of the sacrifices you make in order to retain a quality ISP.

EDIT: Just checked the resellers section. I can see that moaning about entanet is now standard practice! Sorry for ranting about something you must all be bored with by now grin

There's more than one user of my line so the peak usage just wouldn't cut it, there never have been massive peak usage allowances on any of the ISPs I have ever used. I understand this.

Entanet off-peak used to be great on my 30/300 package but then they stopped communicating, became less open, introduced a new ALT and decided not to tell anybody what the off peak usage limits would be. They pretend that off peak is unlimited but I now get pushed on to their new ALT at half the previous usage, not good.

If the days of good off peak allowances are over why on earth do think that any of these ISPs are "quality"?
So we now pay more for a worse service and we're supposed to just shrug our shoulders?

Not getting at you white43, I just feel that we're all being shafted here and just accepting it.
Sorry for the rant smile

I'm in much the same situation, fairly heavy user currently on Entas Office135 at £53pm just so my autistic son can stream movies, videos and play World of Warcraft. But after 2 months of everything being OK I've picked up 4 black marks in the last 2 weeks, the last one for downloading 384Mb at 9pm on a Thursday night!.

My only options are to either move to Zen Unlimited at £83pm or to Web Tapestry who are an Enta L2TP reseller (so same ISPC connection to Edinburgh but no ALT applied) at £78pm. Not much of a choice for a disabled single parent with 3 children to feed frown

We have just introduced a selection of high use products, these are not cheap but the allowance can be used at anytime, not just off peak.

The info is available at http://4thenet.net/broadband/4thenet-high-use/

Of course, only based on what you've been currently paying Enta wink

Only main difference is that we don't have an ALT, or 'black mark' system - so you could actually use all your data without being rate limited to stupid speeds when your local node is busy!

If you're the unlucky majority that can't get cable or LLU then yes.

Goodness knows how anybody can say positive things about the state of Internet access in the UK. It's honestly quite disgusting for most of us.

It's slow. It's unreliable. It's expensive. It's restrictive. Anything else?

IDNet, Zen, Newnet, AAISP? In my opinion between them these cater quite adequately and economically for 80% of the market.
