Hi,
My BT broadband (non fibre) contract is about to end, so my introductory deal of £5/month is about to disappear.
Understandably, I'm not keen on the big price hike so was about to move.
However, my other half thinks if I phone BT and explain that I am willing to sign another 12 month contract, but don't need any hardware or vouchers, that they will keep the price as is, rather than lose a customer.
What say you? Worth a try, or are they just going to laugh?
edit: I should also state, I am on a rural exchange, and according to uswitch, I don't have many options.
e.g. They are saying Sky, plusnet and talktalk are not available. Can this be true?
I thought I would still be able to get non-LLU rebadged BT-wholesale offerings, or do these no longer exist?

If you have sky llu in your exchange, Sky are offering free unlimited broadband at the moment and they'll give you £50, or so it says here http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/?DCMP=knc-GOO...
It may be true, but which exchange?

Exchange is WSJOP, it's [censored]. No LLU, not even ADSL2 for the EO lines.
There is FTTx there, but a lot of EO lines, of which mine is one.

My contract with BT ended a couple of months back and they were not the least bit interested in giving me any deal. In fact I've been this route before and I'm now a serial switcher going between BT, Plusnet and now John Lewis - which is Plusnet in reality. I did try the Post Office once but got out of that quickly when Talk-Talk provided their service and reduced the bandwidth at peak times.
The packages vary slightly but give me all I need anyway.
I have the same issues with Electricity suppliers and frequently switch them as well.
It's not difficult to do.
Good luck

Talktalk do not, and sky sometimes do in exceptional circumstances but the service is dire so avoid it. Plusnet will be available but at a more expensive price.

Sky's no good for you

BT probably know about the limited options, but retention deals in return for a 12 month contract generally are half way between standard price and your £5

For WSJOP exchange BT Broadband is your best option. https://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WSJOP
It might accept you! I would sign-up online from their website for the £5.99pm 12-month contract BT Deals online exclusive!

I realize he's an existing customer! How you do it, you start a new contract exclusively online. Don't communicate with any customer service human robot.
I recently signed with EE for the £1pm broadband 18 month contract exclusively online! The website said they would send me a new router, they never did send one, but I got the contract. I have been with them for years, what happens you dump your old legacy contract and start a new contract.

There is rearrangement planned for a load of E/O lines onto PCP 4 .

If you have an online account, login to MYBT, at the top you should see a section to view your offers. This deal is usually very good.
All can be done online as well.

Are you getting this info just from Codelook?
I have been tracking on here, and as far as I can see locally, there *IS* no PCP4 as yet.
I figured PCP4 would be built, along with it's counterpart fibre cabinet at the same time.
https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm?xid=9...
When I first saw that it was being planned, I think the live date was December 2016, then it got pushed out to April 2017, but now it's been pulled back to February 2016.
Anyone got any info on "Phase BDUK Scot Government 15a"?

Tried this, and they pulled a bait and switch on me!
They were quoting me £5.99 for broadband, plus line rental, (I was signed in at the time).
Then at the checkout page, this changed to £20 for bb and £18.99 for line rental.
So that transaction got cancelled!

When Ribble something might happen, it means it will.
When he says something is planned, it is planned, even if it isn't showing on publicly available sites.
Things that are planned can of course run into problems, so it might not happen. In the case of a rearrangement I'd be very surprised if it didn't come to pass.

OK, point taken

..... what happens you dump your old legacy contract and start a new contract.
So do you have to cease the broadband as you can't usually migrate to the same company you are already with, their online software would check the phone number and detect the user was already an existing customer?
Maybe EE's systems aren't that advanced

What is the best deal you can get from Plusnet? At the moment I have 10 months left on an 18 month Plusnet free broadband introductory offer at a Market 1 exchange. I may have to consider Vodafone when my contract comes to an end.
I have also just had a Plusnet 18 month free introductory at another property where I previously had Plusnet and which is connected to an exchange with LLU operators.

Whatever the deals are, they won't be the same in 10 months .
But on a Market A(?) exchange, (Markets 1,2,3, ceased to exist a long time ago), Vodafone LLU will not be available. I don't know if they even do BT Wholesale connections, but if they do and it is like the Sky and TalkTalk ones were, forget it.
Post Office similarly. That is run by TalkTalk and is dire if TalkTalk LLU not on the exchange.

So, given that it is a Market A exchange, and no LLU is present, what options do I have that are not pants?
Is it just BT, Plusnet and John Lewis?
uswitch seems to have different options sometimes when I look. I'm sure it had Origin at one point this week, but doesn't now.
What about SSE, TenTel, Pop?
|
|
|
I would say stick to BT or Plusnet. They are the only proven ones to keep throughput decent at exchanges where no LLU is present. There are smaller ISPs, but they will be more costly in most cases.
When you get Fibre Optic in your area, you may then find you are able to get Sky, TalkTalk etc as normal.

There used to be a tiny few exchanges, I think in the north of Scotland, that were restricted to one or two retail ISPs. This was where they had paid for the BT Wholesale equipment in the exchange and the backhaul to it. I don't know if that is still the case.
Everywhere else there are over 100 ISPs available on all Market A exchanges. For instance, just put your phone number into the checker on this page and see they can supply. Just to prove whether there is a restriction or not.
Having said that I agree with ukhardy07's suggestion plus John Lewis - which is run by Plusnet but possibly has better first-line CS.

SSE, TenTel, Pop are on the avoid list for small exchanges that have no LLU presence.

I phoned BT, and it was pretty painless.
They have tied me into a 24 month contract at £10/month, as opposed to £20.
I might have got a cheaper one year deal had I moved, but I have had no issues with BT, throughput stays surprisingly high even at peak times, albeit I only sync at 8Mb/s.
Better the devil you know, and all that.
Cheers for the input.

They want £25 pm for 38Mbps FTTC. Price includes line rental I don't know what the performance is like.
