What Supplier?

[link to this post]

Right then, moving at weekend and i want an ADSL supplier by the following friday. Who would people recommend?

I've been with PlusNet, Freeserve/Wannadoo, Prodigynet (Right shower IMO) and various others. I was looking at Be*, but their system doesn't recognise my number, and a 1 hour 45 minute wait on the phones doesn't bode well (and i was still in position 3 at that point!). My cordless phone battery ran flat while i was waiting!

I want something with a pretty high FUP, or none. I work from home quite often and a lot of it involves large file transfers (Anything up to 5Gb per day in various things) so at a 512k or above upload would be nice, plus i want to have enough spare to do my own browsing and i watch quite a few streaming vids. My local exchange is unbundled by Be, Bulldog, sky and CPW. The only one of those I would say a definate no to is TalkTalk, their call center is about 300 yards from my present address and I know enough people that work there not to buy their product.

Edit : Typos

If BE is at your exchange like you say then they are a good bet

Look at the Entanet resellers (e.g. ADSL24, UKFSN etc.) on the Entanet forum. They have a good reputation and as long as you can schedule your downloads the 150 GB a month shouldn't be a problem.

Forget Be on a new line.

well that was a waste of time, i decided to be patient. I waited 1 hour 25 minutes this time to get through to an operator. However, because they don't have my number listed they won't supply it. I know Be Have unbundled the exchange, I know that i'm under 1k in a straight line, I know I can get the service. They won't supply me, i'll find someone who can.

Use the link I have put below and it will tell you exactly what ADSL services you can get by just putting in your post code or phone number.

Link to ADSL services checker.

You may find you can use an LLU provider but possibly just Be aren't in your area.

cheers, but i eventually got sorted. Turned out is was BT, though i shouldn't have been surprised it took them so long to publish the number to the list. I knew Be have the local exchange unbundled, and i'm less than 800m away in a straight line, so the speed should be reasonable.

TBH i was more interested in a high FUP and the upload speed than anything else. Will make my life a whole lot easier!

Ordered Be this afternoon, they have confirmed the order and my line should be activated by 1st August. That's about 7 days faster than I honestly expected it to be.
