Slow Spot ISP ideas?

[link to this post]

Good Morning,

I've just moved house. The ADSL for my area is at the very end of the line. My neighbour can get a very slow connection. As a result I am guessing my usage is going to be relatively low. However, what I am more concerned with is an ISP that can handle the usual line problems and checking with some authority. Can anyone recommend an ISP that has a good track record with slow connections and good support? I was on ADSL24/Entra and do not have any complaints. Should I stick with them or perhaps go to (reluctantly) BT as they may be able to deal with any problems more efficiently?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you can afford them, Zen are second to none in my experience in dealing with issues

ADSL 24 had a good reputation for sorting problems but it all seems a bit hit and miss these days with Enta resellers from what I read

I am also on the outer limits of adsl possibilities and have improved the speed and stability of my connection by following all the guidelines re wiring, fully filtered face plates and the positioning of the router etc to eliminate noise interference

I also use the DMT tool with my router to quickly resync the connection when the things go pear shaped after a drop ...........good luck smile

I'd say AAISP are just what you're looking for http://aaisp.com/broadband-trial.html

I think BT Broadband would give you almost the least good problem resolution.

See this comparison and browse likely-looking threads in the BT forum on this site.

Agreed - you posted while I was faffing around with mine, reading other things I came across whilst looking for this News Article about AAISP. (Which I then forgot to include a link to. Something to do with a hangover).

Do you know what exchange you are connected to?
Would you happen to know what speed your neighbour is getting?
As other said AAISP is a good choice as they go the extra mile. (as does your line wink!)

I'm at the end of the line. 256K 512 if I'm lucky

AAISP looks OK but there daytime usage is low. 4GB 9-6pm Mon - Fri for ~£30PCM

So are you going to use 4Gb between 9 and 6 Mon-Fri - on a slow connection?

The point of the recommendation is they are possibly the best around to make sure your connection works correctly. Once you have it up and running satisfactorily you have the option of migrating out, as it is only a monthly contract.

That's a good point. I could try it for now. I'll do a little more reading and see what happens. I'll post back if/when I have news. Thanks for the replies.
