Suggested ISP for combined Phone and ADSL package

[link to this post]

Hi there.

I am currently with Orange Broadband (have been for years), but I find their customer service poor at times (any time when I need anything resolved - LOL)

I am currently on a contract with my mobile where I get the following all for a total of £30 per month:

Mobile
Landline rental - with free evening and weekend calls
Second line - VOIP type phone with anytime calls to 30 countries etc
8 Mb "unlimited" broadband.

However, I have come to the end of my contract and ideally would like to make the break from Orange.

I no-longer use my mobile anymore (have a work mobile which people can contact me on and I never make calls from home with mobile).

Can anyone suggest a package with another company to migrate to which will include the following at a competitive rate.

- Landline rental
- Anytime UK calls (from landline or VOIP type phone)
- High download usage (not that I download enormous amounts, but I want to be able to use BBC Iplayer HD without restriction)
- 8 Mb or better

Thanks in advance

Very good question, sorry for being an idiot and not including that essential nugget of information.

As you can see, not much available!!!

That's a tough one because most combined packages, except BTs, only come with evening and weekend calls. I'm thinking of the post-office and plusnet here. If you have sky tv there's also sky phone, but you won't be able to get sky broadband at a reason price with this because you don't have LLU.

Well, I could compromise if the package was reasonably priced. I will have a look at the two you suggested and see what I think.

My main issue with Orange (apart from the fact they they repeatedly bill me for items which are contractually free and I spend hours getting them to fix it) is that they run the phone, mobile and broadband businesses as seperate entities, so when there is a billing problem you get passed from pillar to post and no-one takes responsibility.

I am filled with dread with the nightmare of even cancelling my contract(s!)

Can anyone vouch for either of the companies? Are they "joined up" in how they resolve issues?

Thanks for the very quick and helpful replies by the way!

Hi there,

You can add Anytime calls (01/02/03 numbers plus 300 international minutes) to our 'phone package for an extra fiver a month.

Hi there,

Our broadband and 'phone packages are both managed in tha same place. You'd have one account, one bill each month, and one login to our Member Centre to administer both services.

Thanks for the information from all that have helped.

(ignoring the 3 months discounted price) I will be paying pretty much £29 per month with plusnet which is only £1 less than Orange, but I won't be getting a mobile phone with free texts and calls and I will be limited to 10 Gb per month (which although I won't bust every month, it may be limiting at times).

I suppose I may need to work out if the customer service improvement is worth the extra money to get the same package or if I am willing to stay with Orange, which I have to say, does seem to be very competitive indeed!

Any other ideas?

With your limited availability due to no LLU on the exchange, would BT be an option?

At £23.54 its a bit cheaper, even on their highest package?

BT is never an option.
