Sheffield: Digital Region FTTC

[link to this post]

Hi,

Looks like Digital Region has activated the cabs in my area and so i'm looking for an ISP that supports it.

From the website I can see DigitalRegionsBroadband and RipWire as being two choices, but I think only ripwire does residential. It would be a 40down/10up /uncapped line @ £25.. (I'm current on Be LLU 6Mbps @ £17.99ish)

Anyone used Ripwire before, or anyone on the digital region network and can tell me what it's been like.

here is some of the companys offering FTTC

fast www.fast.co.uk
timico www.timico.co.uk
aquiss www.aquiss.net/broadband-fibre.php (free connection and install )
Eclipse www.eclipse.net.uk/
Idnet http://www.idnet.net/
Zen doing trials www.zen.co.uk full service starts near end of september
aaisp http://aaisp.net.uk/broadband-units.html
adsl 24 http://adsl24.co.uk ( will start full service in a week or so )

if you can get a uncapped FTTC line at £25 that would be very good

4 signed up to provide, but they look more like business services. To be honest not overly impressed with anything they offer. Where are the big players in all this?

Not sure if all those listed are providing FTTC service on the network mentioned in the original post?

I gather it is very expensive for service providers to connect their systems to new network operators. I doubt if you will see large numbers wanting to spend money to offer service on an unproven network with a relatively small footprint, especially when they have FTTC capability in the area too.

Those are BT FTTC solutions. Digital Region is for the South Yorkshire area only and is not part of the BT service, so those ISPs generally won't be able to provide service frown

Hi,

ISP's current signed up are DRBSY, Ripwire, Ask 4 and Lyndos

DRBSY are able to provide their packages to residential users, you dont have to be a business to sign up.

Thanks

Thanks, i'll drop them a line..

Perhaps the lack of "big name" ISPs means that uptake isn't very strong.
