Honestly, virgin is fine in one house for me and was an absolute nightmare in the other.

It's different in different areas and situations.

The superhub has issues, the GUI locks up after a few days of usage. Can be a little annoying.

Hi Andrew,

I was the annonymouse that made the post as I had lost my username.

I was not letting a wiring technician use my computer but a fully trained technician pased to me by VM who was based in India who stated he would update my Network Files.

The reply I had from Sony was:- The model VAIO you have is of some considerable age and I am afraid we do not have the items you are requesting. Yes all backup and restore disks etc were available but as Sony said they did not even support the model any more there was not much I could do.

I have got the facilities to remove and format the HDD but would have to buy a copy of XP which would cost which would have been a waste of time. Sony in fact had a special BIOS & Windows XP OS and as I found out trying to repair system some of the keys were inoperative as the Sony chap said he hoped I would recycle the unit responsibly.

This sounds very like a phishing type call, did they call you? And you gave them access to your machine?

This is a common scam, often they pretend to be Microsoft staff.
'Update Network Files' sounds very like an untrained person, the fact that they can get into your computer remotely over the internet indicates that non of the files were faulty. Now settings like DNS/RWIN or MTU may have needed tweaking but getting those wrong should at worst just throw you offline.

On the laptop, I presume did not retain or create the restore discs? Sony Laptops of ten year vintage used to come with restore media.

NO it was not a phishing call at all I was on the phone to VM, I called them due to a problem with their new hub they passed me to their experienced engineer as stated, no one called me at all. Not many people would give any cold caller access to their computer and am somewhat surprised you even intimated this fact.

I was not letting a wiring technician use my computer but a fully trained technician passed to me by VM who was based in India who stated he would update my Network Files as they were out of date.

You presumed incorrectly as all 9 restore disks were retained and used including a full backup of the computer updated a few days before.

The reply I had from Sony was:- The model VAIO you have is of some considerable age and I am afraid we do not have the items you are requesting. Yes all backup and restore disks etc were available but as Sony said they did not even support the model any more there was not much I could do.

Amazing that "Microsoft Support" ring me several times a month then. You would think that long ago their reason for doing this would have died from lack of funding.

May I suggest you could make a fortune as a stand-up comedian? What basis do you have for saying it was a "fully trained technician" as opposed to an level 2 script monkey? Your own analysis of the service given belies the more complimentary epithet.

The rest of your reply is a tad supercilious, considering the person you addressed and his depth of knowledge not just of the technology but of problem resolution.

As your Subject is a question, in your case it seems to have been. The most accurate answer to it is "Yes, you are not the first to be unhappy".
