Do you mean it doesn't even start, or it hangs half way through? If it hangs, you may have got to the Testing page. If you did, we need to know the Configured speed from the Testing page.

Independent of what your connection speed is, it could even be 20Mbps, if that figure is stuck 135kbps then your maximum throughput is going to be about 250kbps.

Similarly some ISPs hold a copy of the ISP profile and apply that themselves, and that copy can get set to 135kbps and fail to be updated to the correct value when it should. So first we need to know what the BT version is. If it is 135kbps then there is the immediate problem, if it is the correct value for your connection speed then you need to find out if they have a copy IP Profile and what it is set at.

Note that the BT test often takes up to a minute, possibly even longer, to start doing the actual test. Are you getting to the Phone Nmber entry page, and if yes are you getting to the "Checking user details" page?

Just realised I'm going mad frown.

135kbps IP Profile wouldn't get you 250kbps throughput. You would need 350kbps or 500kbps profile to get that. I've never heard of it being stuck at either of those, though it isn't impossible.

I'll see what else I can think of.

I was referring to where I said "if that figure is stuck 135kbps then your maximum throughput is going to be about 250kbps". That's garbage. If the IP profile was 135kbps yoy wouldn't even get 100kbps speed test speed. The IP Profile, with some reduction from it for overheads, is the highest test result you can get.

I've got a few pages here about IP Profile. I don't know if you will be on the old or new system there.

Thanks.....

Did the test again at 4pm and got this message..
2 Concecutive attempts failed to initialize assure rate session for your isp
raise fault informing performance tester tool indicated problem with
initializing sessions.

Dont know exactly what the means but sound like trying to start a car
with not enough in the tank.

Reported this to orange via their web site but that took a call to get my email
also called at 4ish but all keep getting is its my problem and long costly calls
that get u nowhere fast.

Being honest i dont think leaving will get me faster speeds maybe fix this then
leave i mean 1mb would do...

Had a problem with my broadband recently,100ks instead of 3mb, and the technical information being bandied are way over my head. In my experience I like to do simple things first. Change Filter and Router with neighbours working unit for comparison.
On talking to my ISP ( TalkTalk ) was asked to do a couple of things, to determine where the problem was (from master socket)
1) change ISP username to bt_test@startup_domain and restart router.
2) open browser and type in http://www.bt.net/digitaldemo
The webpage did not load showing a bt fault. Which they dealt with.
3) Went to www.bt.com and loaded line fault check. This showed a line fault near house. Found to be a intermittent connection.
It may pay to change to another provider as, I believe, changes will need to be made at exchange and this could also be cause.
I will not use LLU as I wish to keep line with BT, this is preference only.
Of those you list would use Talktalk, unless you have sky tv.
I use TalkTalkBusiness (nonLLU) can be slow at night sometimes, as with all providers on exchange.
This has good information http://www0.more-solutions.co.uk/support/bt-test-use...

Quick comment on LLU. If you go with someone like Be then you can leave the line with BT and only LLU the broadband - this is virtually the same as staying with BT - the benefit is that the LLU doesn't use BTs banding profiles that can be a pain (I suspect that was part of your issue you mention about the line being 100Kb).

If you go "full" LLU (phone line and broadband fully moved to LLU) then that is a different kettle of fish and not something I would be willing to do unless they get a proper MAC like process running for this as well. Personally I will not have phone and broadband with the same company at present as then it is impossible for them to go full LLU.
