I must say, I'm not too impressed by this periodic full-screen nagging on Windows trying to get me to switch to Microsoft Edge from Google Chrome. Microsoft only gives me a "skip for now"; in other words, they will nag me to switch to Microsoft Edge in the future whether I like it or not: https://imgur.com/Uhla4RJ

Surprised they can get away with that given the fight they had with the EU about IE years ago.

Agreed. I wonder if people in countries within the European Union also see this nag screen.

That was a different issue, wasn't it? It wasn't about advertising IE.

I suppose I could try that and see if it works for next patch Tuesday. But for less tech savvy people who have computers set up for them by other people with Google Chrome installed, no doubt in many cases they will just click the "recommended" setting and fall for the coercion towards Edge.

The EU have made it very clear that they take a dim view of Microsoft using their dominant position in the operating system market to push their own products over that of their competitors. Hence my doubt that users in the European Union will be seeing this screen.

And people say Apple is bad. I don't get any of that on my Mac.
i presume that is on Windows 11?

No, it was about bundling Internet Explorer with Windows.
They were made to include a screen during setup that prompted the user to download an alternative to IE if they wanted. If I remember correctly there was even a version of Windows with IE removed (as much was possible given that various bits of the user interface used it).

I honestly don't believe MS forced your parents into using Edge maybe you could post link to a screenshot when this occurs.
I have been using Win 10 with Firefox for years and while some MS Apps do open Edge and maybe ask if you want to change to Edge as your DEFAULT browser I've never seen them trying to force me. It's also like everyone has Google Chrome on their computer because a lot of downloaded software has a checkbox which is ticked by default asking if you would like to install.
To get back on point, as well as the above neither does MS NAG me to change to Edge.

oh dear, that is not good, I have just reinstalled Windows 10 on my PC as I was having a few problems, but not the latest version.

Remove EDGE.
Whilst possible, it can cause problems with other applications.
Use caution if you do this, backup system first.

Hence my use of “quotes” but the language used was certainly more heavy handed in encouraging them to change to Edge. This is not exactly new behaviour from MS.

I've been happy enough to use MS Edge on Windows 10 for a long while now. I must have received a recent 'nag' not to use Internet Explorer as it was no longer supported. Unnecessary as I didn't use it. Edge works for me. OK, I uninstalled IE. BIG MISTAKE!
I use MS Outlook 2010 as my email client. Now I find I cannot follow links in emails received (potentially dodgy, I know) Instead I get the message: "The operation is canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer..."
Sometimes the link can be cut and pasted into my browser, sometimes the URL is not easily cuttable, such as Amazon's 'Track your package' button, and I have to forward the email to another device.
The promising "solutions" I've found on the internet do not work. It is no longer possible to reinstall IE. Repairing Outlook from the CD does not work.
Please, has anyone any workable solutions?

Did you try this one? If that doesn’t work you may have to reinstall Win10

Have you seen this. You may be able to upgrade to the new Outlook Windows app for free?

Microsoft's naming is insane, they already have two products called Outlook. Now they'll have three: the webmail service, the traditional desktop app and now the new free UWP app.

Outlook.com == free webmail for consumers with ads
On Windows there is Outlook (part of the Office applications) that today shows a “Try New Outlook” option that downloads this new UWP which appears to just be a wrapper around a web service as it has most functionality missing, including offline support.
On Mac there is Outlook (part of Office) that has a New and Old version within the same download.
And the free Mail/Calendar on Win11 are being replaced by the UWP that paid customers are being offered.
The UWP is at least marked PRE (for Preview, the Azure term for not yet finished, don’t expect it to work).
And of course if you have a MS365 Exchange Online account you get Outlook.office.com web mail without ads.
