Well, i've dug an old computer out of the loft for the kids to use over the summer but it's windows 98 - first edition and won't let me install Office or a WiFi card.
Can i update it to SE?

You can't use a 98SE Upgrade CDROM to upgrade from 98 to 98SE - this will only work when upgrading from Win95.
You can use a 98SE Full CDROM, but will have to wipe the hard disk to perform the installation (I don't think you can dual boot 98 and 98SE, but am not 100% sure).
There's no problem using a 98SE Full CDROM from a different PC - there is no enforced security/registration like XP.
The WiFi card won't work on 98 First Edition because 98FE doesn't support any form of wireless networking. But 98SE will run WiFi, and with a suitable card (with its latest drivers) 98SE can also run WPA-PSK encryption - check your card's documentation to see what your card supports.
Whether Office will run on 98SE depends on the version of Office.
