Windows 98SE - Preservation

Now that the 11th July 06 has come and Microsoft no longer supports Win98, what are the best ways to protect those who for various reasons still run Win98.

I have a 7 year old machine (a 433MHz P2-based Celeron), and cannot really afford to replace it right now, nor replace the various peripherals which won't work on XP or Vista. A NAT router, a decent AV proggie, software firewall. I wouldn't panic tbh. I doubt you're being targetted by hackers.

A lot of this security awareness is simply to make a profit for the people who sell the software, good firewall, an up to data antivirus and your fine. Don't go browsing dodgey websites, and you wont get spyware. Enjoy

I can understand where you are coming from, i actually still use windows ME but i get a lot of people saying, i should only use or upgrade to xp.

I have xp as well but ME is much better than xp in some ways because, xp has a lot of bugs and is more likely to get spyware, viruses. win ME is much faster then xp and is not bloated like xp either.

Make sure you have spyware blaster on your win 98 system, just click on link and find the download section.

I use fairly up to date hardware (AMD 64 3000+, 1gb RAM, 200gb Samsung hard drive etc.) and find it runs much faster than xp and I really dislike the xp default
