Vista MTU

Apologies if this is already covered but I cannot find answer anywhere.

Problem: Recent load of Vista looks like it has the MTU issue already discussed. How do I change the MTU in Vista ? My XP PC works fine on MTU 1400 but Vista PC will not access many websites.

DrTCP works fine in XP but does not work for Vista ?

Any help greatly appreciated.........

Also most of the tweak software previously linked does not seem to cover Vista ???

do a search, I posted a method on here a while back as have many others. Alternatively just google "vista mtu tweaking" - you need to enter into the reg editing business though.

O.k. I tralwed many links but most dead end on XP and not Vista.....but in the end it is as simple as this:

c:\netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection
" mtu=1400 store=persistent

This command sets the mtu to 1400. To view use this command:

C:\netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

If you get an error mesage about elevated command then go to " all programs-accessories-and right click on the command prompt. Then select "run as administrator".

Maybe vista is not so bad after all.

I have set the mtu to 1500, it shows the mtu as 1500 in the command prompt, but when I run any sort of test , i.e speedguide.net , it says the mtu is 1432. WTF

Is was ok a few days ago, suddenly it's doing this. GRRRH

Not found any way of getting IE7 or Firefox to make use of the MTU properly.

Ran the dslreports test aswell, showing 1432.

Downloads work fine over newsgroups, but general browsing speed and downloads are halved. WTF

probably something between you and the server doing the test running at 1432. Is your router set up manually perhaps.

You do not need to change MTU or RWIN etc on Vista
Search Google for "Receive Window Auto-Tuning"

I didn't realise that the MTU was effected by the auto tuning. Hmmm

What seems strange, is how a few days ago ....after setting the MTU to 1500, it showed as 1500 on speedguides analyser, and suddenly it isn't.
