Outlook Express

A friend has OE and posts JPG pics to friends etc, he loads them as file attachments but when they are received the pictures are in the body of the email and are unusable as the recipient has to scroll sideways and downwards because they are so large. The attachments are shown in the attachments window but how can he stop them being in the body of the email.

I use Mozilla Thunderbird and I don't have this problem I just click on the attachment and it loads in Windows picture and fax viewer. I'm not too good on OE. Is there a setting I should change?

I'm not sure, but when i'm sending pics i usually winrar them into one archive.

I don't use OE, but it may be that he is using HTML as the format and has 'Send pictures with messages' checked. (Tools > Options > Send > HTML settings) Try unchecking that, it can be done at message level, and see if it helps.

Tell him to right click on the attachment itself and save it (The paper clip icon that is in the right hand corner its opposite FROM ..TO.. SUBJECT.. right at the top of the email. Then he can view it normal size as it were.

Correct, but to make it clearer - it's the mail recipient who has to right-click on the attachment.

It sounds as though the OP's friend is sending the attachments correctly, but it's the recipient who doesn't know how to view them.

Just to clarify matters, what happens is that the JPG attachment shows up in the body of the email as an unreasonably large picture. Yes there is an icon on the attachment line which, if clicked, will open up the attachment in whatever program has been pre-selected.

The problem is that the pictures are showing in the body of the email. I don't get this in Thunderbird, I just get the attachment icons showing.

Anyway I've asked him to try rikbean's solution and I'll report back sometime tomorrow.

It is normal for the jpg to show up in the body of the email and you are correct they are too large for the screen. It is just how things are with outlook express. Unless you send a really small jpg that is.
