AVG free - startup error

[link to this post]

Hi. Ive just booted up and found my avg antivirus free edition doesnt work any more! Am getting this message..
Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgamsvr.exe: starting service....
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. (1053)

I have uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled but keep getting this message. Any ideas? Also couldnt get my diskeeper to load but now works after a reinstall. The only thing I have done thats different to my usual use is to run lavasofts free adaware on an ADS scan, though I dont know what that does.
Thanks

I would do an online virus check, Google for one that suits you.

The standard fix for nearly all AVG Free problems, as given on the AVG Free Forum (linked from http://free.grisoft.com ), is to uninstall, reboot and then install the latest downloaded version of AVG Free.

If this doesn't work, ask on the AVG Free Forum - it's very good.

{Edit} Uninstall by running the AVG install program and selecting the uninstall option - not by running Windows ControlPanel AddRemove - and select "Remove User Settings".

If you are running Vista, select "Run as Administrator" when installing.
