Outlook Express Stange Emails

Hi, I use OE6 my XP SP computer.

The trouble is I'm starting to get some garbled messages coming through. I'm seeing things like this:

bg0KMDAwMDAwMjk5NCAwMDAwMCBuDQowMDAwMDA0MzM4IDAwMDAwIG4NCjAwMDAwMDQ2MTcgMDAw
MDAgbg0KMDAwMDAwNDcyOCAwMDAwMCBuDQowMDAwMDA1MjI4IDAwMDAwIG4NCjAwMDAwMDU0OTEg

Can anyone give me advice as to what I should be looking at to fix this please?

is it trying to display an image as text for some reason?

are these emails from trusted sources?

Hio, yes they are from trusted sources.

Funny thing, I only just noticed, they only seem to be like this when ther'es a link in them? Does that help narrow it down any?

That looks like the actual encoded chars., called BASE64, of an email before it is decoded. Usually used for an attached picture or other binary file.

It could be that the email is corrupt. Are they all from the same source?

If you Save As... the email to somewhere on HDD and look at it with Notepad you should see a whole block of such chars. preceded by Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64.

EDIT: Easier still, I just remembered, look at it in OE by:
File -> Properties -> Details -> Message Source

Thanks for the reply, here's what I get from the header: Transfer-Encoding: base64

Does this tell me anything? I've copntatced the senders (all trusted sources) who say I'm the only one with problems, so it must be something on my machine. Any thoughts please anyone?

Yes, that just confirms my guess. The email could still be corrupted.

Any chance of posting or PM the whole Message Source here, either from Save As.../Notepad or OE Properties/Message Source, after disguising anything private and, if the BASE64 block is too big, replacing it with a note?

I've tried a lot of things now, including creating a new identity.

I also tried to re register many things and one of them fails, I can't help but think this has to be the problem. The message is :mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This filecannot be registered

Any thoughts on whjat to do to resolve this? Thank you again

That file, which is an HTML viewer, comes as part of Internet Explorer, I think. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling IE via Add/Remove Programs ... Window Components.

Did you recently upgrade to IE8 and did this problem stem from then?
