firefox revamp

so what do people think of it?

I am still using FF 3.0.15 and to be honest it works, I know where all the menus are and I think hiding menus is a bad thing.

It looks like Mozilla is just trying to make Firefox into another Chrome/ Internet Exploder clone.

Don't like it at all. I definitely prefer having the buttons & menus showing, I use them frequently.

FF4.0 looks ok, but, it isn't a version that I would want to use if it could be helped.

Looks a lot like IE8.

That's enough right there to stop anyone from loading it.

FF 3+ works good enough hence people hardly use IE, there's no point using anything else unless it's for Win. updates.

it's odd how that only got posted as news yesterday. those mockups were done months ago. people have even been modifying FF3.5 to look the same for quite some time now. see these threads on neowin (note the start dates)

and i can't see any reason to complain. there will no doubt be a "classic" skin for anybody who doesn't like the changes.

At the end of the day we just have to wait and see. The problem is when they change things, they make it hard to find how to change it back.

I like firefox, ok it is not perfect and sometimes it can slow right down and I have to quit it and restart, and maybe it is not as fast as the new ones on the block, but it is something I have used for years, even when it was netscape. I like the addons, I just like the way it works and changing it may be a step too far, but we just have to wait and see.

On XP, no-no, but on Vista/Win7, i'd probably welcome the visual change. Firefox on Vista and Win7 looks absolute carp in my opinion. Terrible colour.

You can change the colour, it is not the look of it that is the problem, it is this silly idea of hiding menus and also putting the search box with the URL box.

Looks quite nice, I like it....as to the hiding of menus being a "bad thing", what do you use FF for - browsing the web or playing with options? Put a little perspective on it before you dismiss it....

I for one go through 'episodes' of playing with options quite extensively. Whether its whizzing into 'About' to remind me what version I'm on after an update or fiddling with the encoding selection when dealing shares because the online banking interface is a pile of the proverbial.

There does seem to be a trend in computing generally to complicate things through simplification. For example even after more than a year using Office 2007 I suspect it still takes me longer to perform certain non-standard tasks than on the older suites, just because it takes so much longer to find functions. The issue is in part my failure to abandon long standing habits but is also the tendency on the part of the developers to assume that the end users of their Professional Office Package is a class of illiterate preschoolers.

In short, simplicity isn't always the best approach.
