Boot straight into user account

[link to this post]

Hi. I wonder if someone can help.

I recently did a fresh install of windows xp pro. When I boot up it displays a user log in window displaying me, user Matt. Prior to the reinstall I never had this log in screen. It just booted straight into 'Matt'. Unfortunately I could not remember how or why this was done so I did a google search. I was directed to type 'control userpasswords2' in the 'run' prompt. Having done this the pc now boots up, bypasses the log in screen (great, thats what I wanted) but logs into the windows administrator and not my 'Matt' administrator account.
So I still have to log out and then log back in as Matt.

How do I get my pc to bootup directly into Matt?

Many thanks for any advise

Disable the auto login (require people to login) and reboot, log back in, and set it to not require login. It should ask you to type in a user/pass for the machine to automatically log in to.

Alternatively, click on START, RUN and enter:

control userpasswords2

then untick box "user must enter usnername and password ......."

That is what I have done which is why it now seems to boot straight into Administrator administrator and not to what I want, Matt Administrator.

Is there atleast a way to reverse the control userpasswords2 comand?

Hey thanks Pipexer. Yep it works. I think it takes a little longer to boot up now but maybe my imagination. Still quicker than having to muck about logging out and in again.
cheers

Yeah I think an automatic logon can sometimes increase loading times (assuming you are sat there ready to go) because it starts loading up items associated with your user account before it has loaded the usual system services. Whereas if it was disabled and you was typing your username/password, it would be finishing off loading the system services so when you press enter, the logon would be quicker.
