Win 7 "upgrade" from Vista - Both Ultimate.

[link to this post]

Hi everyone..

This is a 2 part question regarding Windows 7...

Quick background info, I recently (Aug 09) bought a new PC, from Dell, which was eligable for Win 7 Upgrade. I have Vista Ultimate 64Bit, so the upgrade is the same but Win 7.

Part One:

I have an upgrade copy of Win 7 Ultimate from Dell, can I "dual" boot with this copy or only use it to install over Vista?

Part Two:

Before I start installation of Win 7 I am advised to back up my files etc, however I have an external HDD (Toshiba Store Alu 500GB) which I wish to use. I have previously used it to make a back up from my old Dell laptop (running XP Home SP3), and those files can be seen. However when I try to back up via Vista, I am told this is not possible, and an error code is given (which I failed to note) what can I do ?

TIA.

Are you trying to use the "backup facility" within Vista or just copying the files across?

Was Eclipse Home Option 1 & VM 2Mb
Now O2 standard

***Quick Update****

I have successfully backed up my files to the External HD.. smile

regarding Windows 7, I just decided to do an Upgrade as to me it seemed pointless having it and Vista on the machine..
