Dell Windows 7 upgrade disk

[link to this post]

If you have a Dell Windows 7 upgrade disk for your Dell Vista PC and instead of upgrading you boot from the disk to do a fresh install, will the new vista to windows 7 upgrade product key work that way?

Hi, I had a Dell win 7 upgrade for my vista laptopb(studio ver). I ensured that the laptop boots from the dvd ( change the bios if necessary). I chose custom install as I did not want to keep Dell' software. However windows 7 put the old OS ( vista) in windows.old which I duley deleted. Also device drivers were kept in a file, which was useful because some devices were shown with yellow question mark in device manager initially. The only issue I had was the small partition of about 8 gig (reserved by Dell for Vista recovery), which I deleted, but it is usable for data just like the C partition. I could not merge it with C partition, apparently bacause it is to the left of "C". If it is to the right of "c" then Disk management in win 7 would have done it!!!
I hope this makes sense to you. Of course I used the code supplied on the disk as usual.

In case anyone comes across this thread, for information only about ACER's and all brands associated (TI, Gateway, Packard Bell, e-machines) etc..............

If you go through their upgrade website, you will recieve two disks.
One with Windows 7 on and one with all the drivers for both Vista and Win7, 32 & 64bit versions.

You are able to choose a clean install or a (recomended by ACER) Upgrade.

I have so far ordered over 30 packages for customers and all upgrades or clean installs, customers choice after advice, have gone without a hitch.

Allow a couple of weeks for delivery. If you are like me, then it is handy to keep a few "in stock" so that your customers don't have to wait.........

I was actually impressed with the whole way of doing it, it is outsourced, but they appear to know exactly what they are doing, even providing updates on the CD for those that change their mind and don't do the change after all ! ! !
All goods will arrive ACER or Packard Bell etc etc branded, complete with an "additional" OEM licence sticker for the item you are working on.

Regards,
Trevor
