Avast & W32 Malware

[link to this post]

About an hour ago, I ran a full scan of a Win XP system with Avast 5. (My last full scan was t yesterday.) Avast reported file CNMCP58.exe as high-risk W32: Malware-Gen. The file appears to belong to my Canon IP2600 setup. It has been consigned to the Avast virus chest but this looked like a false positive to me. I ran a second quick scan and this time Avast found A0092964.exe, a file associated with Windows system restore, to be a high-risk W32: Malware-Gen. Im not convinced by Avasts findings. Opinions invited.

I'd download Malwarebytes and let it do a scan, i think it'll be more reliable. you could also try Spybot and see what that pulls up.

My guess is they won't be anything

Hi Guys,
Ive only just read your messages. After my post of yesterday I ran a full online scan with Panda, and AntiSuperSpyware scan, and a further Avast scan. All reported a clear system. Ill run an eset scan later this morning just to be on the safe side but Im inclined to think it was Avast being over-sensitive. I had a spate of script false positives back in January.
Many thanks smile
