Windows 7 64 dial up

[link to this post]

Because of an outage last night I attempted to set up a dial-up connection this morning in case it happened again. As with XP, I didn't disconnect the router before testing. The dial-up connected but didn't go any further:

07-13-2010 07:10:50.792 - CD has been raised
07-13-2010 07:10:50.792 - Connection established at 46666bps.
07-13-2010 07:10:50.792 - Error-control off or unknown.
07-13-2010 07:10:50.792 - Data compression off or unknown.
07-13-2010 07:11:20.792 - Read: Total: 40, Per/Sec: 0, Written: Total: 563, Per/Sec: 16
07-13-2010 07:11:23.362 - CD dropped--Remote modem hung up. ModemStatus=00000030
07-13-2010 07:11:23.362 - Hanging up the modem.

After this I couldn't access the internet via the router because the router was not responding to it's IP! The troubleshooter fixed this problem, so now I'm back with an OK connection via router but dial-up is still not working.

This problem did not occur with XP. Any ideas?

Once it says connected, all you have is the line speed agreed by negotiation.
Next you have to get a PPP session started, and then you can start using the internet protocol stuff on the line.
I really don't remember the fine detail of how this gets done, as I haven't had to fiddle with it for several years, and the last time I noted that it was considerably changed (in appearance) for XP, and have no idea what you fiddle with for later Windows flavours.

freeola support told me that the connection was timing out when the remote end was looking for my Caller ID for charging purposes - username and password are ignored. He could see my Caller ID OK on his phone so was baffled why it wasn't being found when the modem was in use.

The modem is working OK in other respects (diagnostics and speed negotiation). Could the problem be a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 thing?

Only thing I can think to suggest is to call using the modem (set up a connection to a known number) and see if the CallerID is picked up then - if it isn't, then there may be a way that the OS has of blocking CallerID emission which you cannot see.
Sounds a bit farfetched to me.
Alternatively, perhaps there is a timing issue somewhere - the timing of CallerID is different in the UK from some other places, as the method used is different.
